American Red Cross Safety Smarts Check List
April 24, 2007
Pacific Daily News ran this test below from the American Red Cross. See if you have safety smarts:
Do you buckle your child in an approved automobile safety seat in the back seat even when making short trips?
Do you teach your child safety by behaving safely in your own everyday activities?
Do you supervise your child whenever he or she is around water and maintain fences and gates that act as barriers to water?
Have you checked your home for potential fire hazards?
Are smoke detectors installed and working? Have you installed a carbon monoxide alarm?
Are all poisonous substances, such as cleaning supplies, medicines, and plants, kept out of children’s reach?
Are foods and small items that can choke a child kept out of reach?
Have you inspected your home, day-care center, school, baby sitter’s home or wherever your child spends time for potential safety and health hazards?
Do you keep guns and ammunition stored separately and locked up?
Do not put toxic liquids such as Clorox, gas, and refrigerator coolant in containers that children recognize as drink containers such as soda or tea bottles.
Have grandparents keep the childproof safety caps on their medications.
Do not let the strings of blinds dangle next to children’s beds.
