Product Recall: Britax Marathon Child Seat

Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced a recall of the Marathon child restraint, model numbers E9L06, E9W06, and E906. The recall includes production of the Marathon child restraints from May 23, 2006 through July 28, 2006 and with a top tether lot number of KGR 01 A. A child could be injured under certain circumstances.
Action:
To address this issue, Britax will send all registered owners of the Marathon child restraints manufactured between May 23, 2006 and July 28, 2006 a top tether hook replacement.

Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced today that it is conducting a safety recall on the Decathlon child restraint, Model Number E9L47.
The recall includes production of the Decathlon from February 12, 2005 through July 31, 2007.
To address this issue, Britax will send all owners two push rivet fasteners to secure the adjuster to the child restraint. This quick modification will prevent the possibility of having the adjuster move out of position inside of the shell housing.
Registered owners of the Decathlon child restraint will automatically be notified and sent complete instructions and push rivet fasteners by mail beginning August 17, 2007. To assist in this process video instructions are available on the Britax website, at www.BritaxUSA.com. The modification will take less than five minutes to complete.

Infantino has received 10 reports of plastic sliders breaking, including eight reports of babies falling out of the carriers. There were four reports of impact injuries where the child was taken to the emergency room. One of these children fractured her skull.
This recall involves the Infantino SlingRider carriers with item numbers: 141-210; 151-210; 151-528; and 151-534. The SlingRider consists of a fabric carrier with a strap attached that is worn by the user to carry an infant up to 20 pounds. The carriers are sold in black or khaki. “Infantino” is printed on the plastic slider located on the strap. The item number is printed on a label inside the SlingRider. Products labeled “Made in Thailand” or “New 2007 Design” are not included in the recall.
Sold at: Target Stores, Babies R Us, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Burlington Coat Factory and other retailers nationwide, by catalog and online from July 2006 through February 2007 for about $30.

85% of children still are improperly restrained, according to Safe Kids USA, a Washington-based group that works to prevent accidental childhood injuries.
If you are not sure what to do, read these tips or contact your local fire and rescue department who often have child car seat training sessions.
Common Installation Mistakes
- Seat is too loose.
- Harness belt system is too loose or positioned incorrectly.
- Rear-facing seat is too upright.
- Switching to a forward-facing seat too soon.
- Using wrong seat for the child’s age.
- Assuming the LATCH system is the best way to attach a seat.
- Incorrect or inappropriate use of the locking clip.
