Ten Posts That Define Bad Dad Radio
September 12, 2007
I keep getting tagged by different bloggers, most recently The Molk and Freakedout Fathers, but up until now I’ve been tardy at fulfilling the obligations. (You know, life gets in the way, and stuff.)
I started BadDadRadio.com because I wanted to experiment with podcasting. The best place to start was talking about something I know about — parenting. I get abused on a regular basis so it seemed that I had enough expertise to talk about it.
By making available useful information and resources, I hope to make some small, positive difference, even if it’s just in one father’s life.
The blog posts were a natural extension of podcasting — a way of distributing related information that might not make it into my podcast episodes, more quickly than the time it takes to prepare audio episodes. Over time, I’ve extended that further through video and participating on social networks
That said, I present TEN posts that define what Bad Dad Radio is all about.
- Fitting In (Audio)
A deeply personal reflection on being bullied as a youth and struggling with that anger for decades. - Help Locate a Missing Child
Example of simple tips to help save lives. - Air Rocket Fun (Vidcast)
Sharing a simple idea to get the kids out of the house and running around outside. - Seven Family Life Goals 7/7/07
Example of tips to help fathers cope with stress and family life. - How To Remote Manage Your Parent’s Computer
Example of tips to solve common problems. - Managing Your Blog Like a Professional Web Site: Content Protection
Sharing technology tips for fellow bloggers. - Contact Lens Wearers Should Use Compatible Cleaning Solution
Example of raising awareness of the less obvious health risks you might never think of. - Use Technology To Stay In Touch With Friends
Example of raising awareness of how to use the latest social tools to maintain bonds. - Scam Awareness: Fake Jury Duty Calls
Example of raising awareness of bad behavior that can result in identity theft. - Product Recall: Take ALL Toys Away, Replace With Cardboard Boxes
Example of sharing important product safety information.
Okay, I admit this post was a gag after 15 real posts of lead paint, magnet and contaminated food recalls. But as soon as I learn of an important product recall that affects children, I try to spread the news to other parents. - BONUS: Some U.S.-Americans Don’t Own Maps
Example of brutal fun. I can’t resist watching a train wreck.
There are many more subjects I have in mind but haven’t shared yet. Please subscribe to the Podcast/blog feed and join me as we explore them together.
Thank you.

Ten Facts About Me
Ten Facts About Me
September 8, 2007
I keep getting tagged by different bloggers, most recently Fathered Five, but up until now I’ve been tardy at fulfilling the obligations. (You know, life gets in the way, and stuff.)
For your consumption, I present TEN facts about me.
- Why?
I started BadDadRadio.com because I wanted to experiment at podcasting. I like to help people. So the best place to start was talking about something I know about — parenting. I get abused on a regular basis so it seemed that I had enough expertise to talk about it. Hopefully I have something to share that someone else might find useful, affirming or comforting. - Why call it Bad Dad Radio?
Because the domain BadDad.com was already taken. I liked the name of the “Grape Radio” podcast. So BadDadRadio.com seemed okay — at first. (I hate the name now. LOL) - Why call yourself Bad Dad?
I didn’t want to come across as a hypocrite “expert.” No one is 100% perfect or even close. I can’t stand those types of self-righteous people. Instead, I have a fond appreciation for humble folks who try their best. So I took on the persona of Bad Dad to symbolize constant growth to become better than what I am. - Are you a good dad?
All depends on who you ask, the time of day, and whether I’ve had my first cup of coffee yet. - How do you provide for your family?
I sell you things you didn’t know you needed. Consider me a modern day Darrin Stephens except fatter, less goofy and I haven’t been replaced by another Dick (yet). - What profession would you rather be in?
I’ve always enjoyed film/video and writing little sketch comedy bits. But I’m more comfortable as a director than an actor. Also, I would love it if I could actually make a living in podcasting/social media. Doesn’t seem realistic though. - What keeps you awake at night?
Stressing out over an ever increasing To Do list. - What’s your prized possession (other than wife/kids)?
I have a classic car, rotting away in my garage. Haven’t driven it in a decade and keep clinging to the false hope that I’ll one day have time to get her on the road again. - What’s your favorite book?
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy TooleEntertaining and brilliant.
- What’s your political view?
I hate talking politics, that’s why you rarely hear me comment on the podcast or blog except to point out political bad behavior and stupidity. I generally find myself leaning conservative, but quite frankly, I find most politicians from all parties to be corrupt, out of touch with the people they represent, and largely useless. I certainly vote to fulfill my civic duty. But I vote based on the politician’s record, not based on party line. - BONUS QUESTION: What’s the best thing that ever happened to you?
Meeting my wife.

Freaked-Out Down Under
June 14, 2007
I want to call attention to Pete Aldin and throw a little link-love at him. I’ve been communicating with Pete on and off for many months now. Like many of us, he wears many hats and does his best to be there for everyone: he’s a father of many, husband of one, business owner, spiritual leader and mentor. Definitely the kind of guy you’d want to throw back a few pints of Fosters with.
I was immediately drawn to his sense of whit and charisma. Rather than me blather on about it, I suggest you take a few minutes to discover for yourself.
Pete can be found at a few places in this series of tubes we call the Interweb:
Freaked-Out Fathers - about, well, ah, freaked-out fathers. Great observations and very funny!
Great Circle - I read it for his insightful and inspirational advice on interpersonal skills and coping. While you’re there, sign up for his monthly newsletter, The Whetstone.
If you like all things Pete, please do me a personal favor and vote for Pete over at Blogging to Fame.
(Psst! And encourage Pete to start podcasting. He is a professional speaker with a great message. He is sure to gain an audience if he does it.)
Thanks!
